CAM-3046 Polypropylene Stiffening Masterbatch for Thin-Wall Cups and Thermoformed Packaging

CAM-3046 is a polypropylene stiffening masterbatch manufactured by Zhejiang Bastone Technology Co., Ltd at BASTONE’s Hangzhou production facility.
Formulated to accelerate PP crystallization, the masterbatch raises rigidity, stiffness and heat deflection temperature in disposable water cups while improving clarity and surface gloss.
Converters running thin-wall injection molding and thermoforming lines use CAM-3046 to hit stiffness targets at lower wall thickness.

Description

CAM-3046 is a concentrated additive masterbatch designed specifically for polypropylene articles. The active system works on the crystallization behavior of the PP matrix — nucleation begins earlier and proceeds faster, which produces a finer, more uniform spherulite structure as the part cools. Crystal size below the wavelength of visible light is what allows a nucleated PP part to be both stiffer and clearer at the same time, and CAM-3046 is built around that mechanism.

The performance profile BASTONE targets with CAM-3046 covers five points: fast polymer crystallization rate, high transparency and gloss, refined part appearance, good hardness with retained impact resistance, and favorable cost-in-use. The combination matters because most stiffening routes force a trade. Mineral fillers add modulus but destroy clarity. Higher-crystallinity homopolymer grades add stiffness but embrittle. CAM-3046 lifts flexural modulus and heat deflection temperature while keeping the impact performance a disposable cup or thermoformed tray needs to survive stacking, filling and transport.

Faster crystallization also pays for itself on the machine. A PP melt that sets up sooner reaches ejection stiffness sooner, so molders can shorten cooling time and cut cycle. On thermoforming lines, sheet made with CAM-3046 shows higher flexural modulus, and parts formed from that sheet deliver strong top-load strength together with impact resistance — the two properties that decide whether a stacked column of cups holds on a pallet.

Clarity and gloss are the second half of the value. Compared against other clarifying and transparent masterbatches, CAM-3046 produces lower haze and higher cup gloss, giving the finished article a cleaner visual. For beverage cups, deli containers and any pack where the consumer sees the product through the wall, appearance is a commercial specification, not a cosmetic one.

BASTONE manufactures CAM-3046 in-house rather than reselling a third-party concentrate. The group operates 4 production sites and 1 R&D center, and the R&D team owns the CAM-3046 formulation from additive selection through carrier compounding and let-down validation. Every batch is compounded, sampled and released under BASTONE's own quality control, so a converter qualifying the grade is qualifying a single production line with a traceable history — not a rotating pool of contract compounders.

Technical Properties

The manufacturer datasheet for CAM-3046 characterizes the grade through comparative performance rather than a numerical property table. Reported performance covers:

Property Reported effect
Polymer crystallization rate Fast
Haze, molded article Low relative to competing transparent masterbatches
Cup gloss High relative to competing transparent masterbatches
Sheet flexural modulus Increased
Top-load (compression) strength, thermoformed parts High
Impact resistance Retained alongside increased hardness
Heat deflection temperature Increased
Rigidity and stiffness, PP disposable cups Significantly increased

Numerical values for haze percentage, gloss percentage, sheet flexural modulus in MPa and top-load strength appear in the datasheet as comparative charts. BASTONE issues the measured figures, together with recommended let-down ratio and processing conditions, on the batch-specific certificate of analysis and technical data sheet supplied with samples and orders. Request current values before finalizing a formulation — published placeholder numbers help nobody qualifying a grade.

Applications

Operator dosing CAM-3046 masterbatch into a PP extruder feeding a thermoforming cup line

Disposable polypropylene water cups are the primary application CAM-3046 was developed for. Cup walls run thin to control resin cost, and thin walls flex. Raising the flexural modulus of the PP lets a molder hold the same perceived stiffness at reduced wall thickness, or hold thickness and gain a cup that does not deform in the hand when filled. The higher heat deflection temperature matters equally here, because cups meeting hot-fill or hot-beverage duty must resist softening at service temperature.

Thermoformed packaging is the second core outlet. Parts formed from CAM-3046-modified sheet show top-load strength and impact resistance together, which is the specification pair that governs stackable containers — deli tubs, dessert cups, portion packs and tray systems that must survive palletizing without column collapse and without cracking on drop. Higher sheet flexural modulus feeds directly into that top-load number.

Clarity-driven PP packaging forms the third group. Where the pack sells the product through the wall, the low haze and high gloss CAM-3046 delivers put PP into visual competition with more expensive transparent polymers. Converters gain the appearance without moving to a different resin family and without the pricing that comes with one.

Across all three, the shared driver is cost-in-use. CAM-3046 is a masterbatch dosed at let-down into standard PP, so a converter upgrades an existing grade on an existing line rather than qualifying a new base resin.

Why Choose BASTONE

Flexural and haze testing of PP samples before palletized masterbatch is loaded for export
Flexural and haze testing of PP samples before palletized masterbatch is loaded for export

BASTONE manufactures CAM-3046 — the grade is not traded, rebranded or bought in. Production runs at BASTONE's own facility under the Hangzhou Economic Development Zone headquarters, with incoming additive inspection, in-process compounding control and finished-pellet release testing handled by BASTONE staff. Buyers deal with the party that controls the formulation, so a technical question about dispersion, let-down ratio or a specific PP base resin gets answered by the people who built the product.

The R&D center behind CAM-3046 is what separates BASTONE from a trading house selling someone else's masterbatch. BASTONE's chemists can evaluate CAM-3046 against a customer's own PP grade, adjust dosage recommendations for a particular wall thickness or cycle target, and support qualification trials with lab data. Customers running unusual base resins or demanding haze targets get formulation work, not a datasheet forwarded from a supplier.

Direct manufacturer supply removes the layers between plant and buyer. There is no trading margin stacked on the price, and order quantities, packaging format and delivery scheduling are set against BASTONE's own production plan. Export moves through Zhejiang Bastone Technology Co., Ltd, the group's export platform, with more than 10 years of export documentation and logistics experience behind it — flexible on trade terms, packaging configuration and port arrangements, and set up to coordinate consolidated shipments for buyers taking CAM-3046 alongside other BASTONE petrochemical and polymer products.
