CAM-3010 Clarifying Masterbatch for Polypropylene

CAM-3010 is a nucleating-and-clarifying masterbatch designed specifically for polypropylene. The active clarifier is dispersed in a carrier system engineered for uniform distribution through PP melt at conventional processing temperatures, so converters get optical improvement without switching to a specialty resin grade or adding a separate compounding step. BASTONE produces the masterbatch in-house rather than repackaging third-party additive concentrate, which means formulation, pelletizing, and batch release testing all happen under one quality system.

The clarifier works by seeding a much higher density of smaller spherulites during PP crystallization. Smaller crystalline domains scatter less visible light, so haze drops and the molded part reads as transparent instead of translucent. Surface gloss improves for the same reason — a finer, more uniform crystal structure at the skin layer reflects more specularly off the tool surface.

Faster nucleation also changes the mechanical and thermal profile of the finished part. Higher crystallinity developed earlier in the cooling curve raises stiffness and heat deflection temperature, so parts hold shape better under load and at elevated service temperature. For a converter running food containers or autoclavable labware, the two effects arrive together: a clearer part that also survives hot fill or steam sterilization without distortion.

The cycle-time benefit follows directly from the same mechanism. Because CAM-3010 accelerates solidification, molders can trim cooling time and holding pressure time relative to an unnucleated PP baseline. On a high-cavitation thin-wall tool running around the clock, a one- or two-second reduction per shot compounds into meaningful annual output — which is why BASTONE positions CAM-3010 on cost-per-part economics rather than on additive price alone.
