CAM-205 Light Transmission Enhancing Masterbatch for Polypropylene

CAM-205 is a polypropylene clarifying masterbatch manufactured by BASTONE at its Hangzhou production facility, formulated to raise transparency and surface gloss in PP injection moulding, sheet, thermoforming and cast film applications.
Recommended dosage runs 1–5%, and the product carries FDA and GB compliance for food-contact and daily-use plastics.
BASTONE supplies it worldwide through Zhejiang Bastone Technology Co., Ltd.

Description

CAM-205 is a nucleating and clarifying masterbatch designed specifically for polypropylene homopolymer and random copolymer systems. The active clarifier is dispersed in a PP carrier resin, so the masterbatch melts and distributes into the host polymer without the dispersion problems that come with dosing powder nucleators directly at the hopper. BASTONE develops the formulation in-house and compounds it on its own production lines, which means the carrier resin selection, active loading and pelletisation are all controlled within one facility rather than split across a compounder and a trading intermediary.

The working mechanism is heterogeneous nucleation. The clarifier creates a high density of nucleation sites during crystallisation, so PP forms far more spherulites and each one stays smaller than the wavelength of visible light. Light passes through instead of scattering at the crystallite boundaries. The result is higher transparency and higher surface gloss in the finished part, without a change in base resin grade.

The same crystal structure change delivers mechanical and thermal benefits. Finer, denser spherulites raise stiffness and lift heat deflection temperature, which matters for parts that need to survive hot-fill, dishwasher cycles or warm warehouse storage. Moulders also gain cycle time: because CAM-205 accelerates solidification, parts reach ejection strength sooner, and cooling time and holding pressure time can both be trimmed.

Dosage sits at 1–5%, adjustable to the clarity target and the base resin. At the low end of the range, converters running commodity PP get a visible optical improvement at a small cost per kilogram of finished part — the economics work because the masterbatch is diluted heavily and because the shortened cycle recovers machine hours.

BASTONE's R&D centre supports the product with formulation and testing capability, and quality control runs on every production batch before release. Buyers dealing with BASTONE deal with the company that made the pellets, so specification questions, dosage trials and grade adjustments go straight to the people who control the recipe.

General Information

Item Detail
Product name CAM-205 Light Transmission Enhancing Masterbatch
Product type Polypropylene clarifying / nucleating masterbatch
Carrier polymer Polypropylene
Manufacturer Zhejiang Bastone Technology Co., Ltd
Production site Hangzhou, China
Process Melt compounding and pelletisation of clarifier concentrate in PP carrier
Compliance FDA and GB certified for hygiene and food-contact safety
Function Increases transparency and surface gloss; raises rigidity and heat deflection temperature; shortens injection moulding cycle

Technical Properties

Property Value Notes
Transparency of finished part Increased Versus unmodified PP at equal wall thickness
Surface gloss Increased Versus unmodified PP
Rigidity Increased Result of finer spherulite structure
Heat deflection temperature Increased Result of higher crystallisation temperature
Injection moulding cycle time Shortened Faster part solidification
Hygiene certification FDA, GB Suitable for food-contact and daily-use plastics

Numerical property values depend on the base PP grade, dosage level and part geometry. BASTONE runs dosage trials against a customer's own resin on request and reports measured haze, gloss and HDT results from the trial rather than publishing generic figures.

Recommended Processing Conditions

Parameter Recommendation
Addition rate 1–5% (adjust to clarity target and base resin)
Melt processing temperature Above 230 °C, to promote full dispersion of the nucleating agent
Cooling time May be reduced relative to unmodified PP
Holding pressure time May be reduced relative to unmodified PP

The 230 °C floor matters more than the dosage. Nucleating agents only work when they dissolve into the melt and recrystallise as fine dispersed sites; running the barrel too cool leaves undissolved agglomerates that scatter light and undo the clarity gain. Moulders who report weak results with clarifiers are usually running short of temperature, not short of additive.

Applications

Operator setting melt temperature above 230 °C while masterbatch doses into the injection machine feed throat

Polypropylene injection moulded parts. Housewares, storage containers, closures and thin-wall packaging all compete against PET and PS on shelf appearance. CAM-205 closes the optical gap while keeping PP's chemical resistance and lower density. The cycle time reduction is a direct production gain here: a thin-wall moulder running a two-second cooling reduction across a 24-cavity tool recovers meaningful annual output from the same press.

PP sheet and thermoformed products. Extruded sheet for blister packs, clamshells and trays needs clarity through a wall thickness that varies across the draw. Finer crystallisation gives more uniform optical behaviour through thick and thin sections. The higher heat deflection temperature also helps sheet hold shape during the reheat step of thermoforming and in end-use containers that see hot contents.

PP cast film. Cast film for packaging and lamination depends on gloss and low haze for print appearance and pack presentation. CAM-205 improves both without moving to a more expensive base resin, and the stiffness increase helps with film handling on downstream converting equipment.

Daily-use plastic products. Consumer goods — drinkware, food storage, bathroom and kitchen articles — need clarity plus hygiene documentation. FDA and GB compliance covers both Chinese domestic and export requirements, which simplifies certification for buyers selling into multiple markets from one production run.

Why Choose BASTONE

Haze testing and certificate of analysis checks beside palletized masterbatch bags staged for export

BASTONE manufactures CAM-205 in its own Hangzhou facility, not through a contract compounder. Every stage — carrier resin selection, active dosing, compounding, pelletising and batch testing — happens under BASTONE's own quality control. When a customer reports an off-spec result, BASTONE traces it back through its own production records rather than filing a claim with a third-party supplier and waiting.

The parent group is R&D-oriented, operating four production sites and one R&D centre. Formulation and testing capability sits inside the company, so BASTONE adjusts the masterbatch for a customer's specific PP grade, dosage window or optical target instead of offering a single fixed product. Trading houses reselling masterbatch cannot do that.

Buying direct from the manufacturer removes the intermediary margin that sits on most masterbatch imported from China. BASTONE quotes ex-works from Hangzhou and exports through Zhejiang Bastone Technology Co., Ltd, a platform with more than ten years of export experience. Trade terms, packaging format, port of loading and documentation all flex to the buyer's requirement, and BASTONE coordinates booking and shipping documents rather than handing the buyer off to a freight agent.
