PP K8003 Impact Copolymer Polypropylene — Injection Molding Grade

PP K8003 is an impact copolymer polypropylene (ICP) resin produced by Dushanzi Petrochemical Company, a PetroChina subsidiary operating one of China’s largest single-train polypropylene units.

Combining a melt flow rate of 2.5 g/10 min with an Izod impact strength of 601.8 J/m at 23°C, K8003 serves injection molders producing thin-wall daily-use articles, industrial containers, battery shells, and household items where toughness and consistent flow behavior matter simultaneously.

Description

Dushanzi Petrochemical manufactures K8003 on a 550,000-ton-per-year polypropylene line using the Innovene gas-phase horizontal stirred bed process. Polymerized propylene feeds the reactor as the base monomer, ethylene acts as the comonomer to build the rubber phase responsible for impact performance, and hydrogen controls molecular weight. Polymerization proceeds under Ziegler-Natta catalysis, followed by degassing, compounding, and pelletization. The result is a homogeneous natural-colored pellet meeting internal standard Q/SY DS070-2016.

The 2.5 g/10 min MFR positions K8003 in the mid-range of injection-grade ICPs — fluid enough for thin-wall mold cavities while retaining enough molecular weight for structural integrity in container walls and housing panels. Barrel temperatures run between 210°C and 260°C, with melt temperatures targeted at 220–240°C, which falls within normal processing windows for most injection equipment without special screw configuration.

Impact performance is where K8003 earns its application fit. An Izod impact strength of 601.8 J/m at 23°C signals a material that absorbs energy through the rubber-dispersed phase rather than fracturing — critical for containers dropped in warehouse environments, battery cases that must withstand mechanical shock, and basins or boxes subjected to rough handling in daily use. At -20°C, impact strength measures 69.7 J/m, indicating retained toughness at refrigerated storage and cold-climate distribution temperatures.

The yellow index of -4.7 means the pellets carry a slight blue tint rather than any warm discoloration, which matters for light-colored or natural-toned end products. Ash content at 0.0277% reflects clean catalyst residue removal during production — a detail that matters for applications with food-contact or electrical insulation requirements.

BASTONE sources K8003 through established trade channels with PetroChina's distribution network, supplying full certificate of analysis documentation traceable to Dushanzi production batches. As a distributor working directly with China's top-three petrochemical producers, BASTONE maintains consistent allocation access rather than relying on spot-market purchasing, which helps protect customers from grade-specific supply gaps during peak demand periods.

Applications

K8003's combination of mid-range MFR and high room-temperature impact strength makes it a dependable workhorse for injection-molded daily-use articles. Thin-wall basins, storage boxes, and household containers benefit directly from the grade's mold-filling behavior at 2.5 g/10 min — the material fills fine details and long flow paths without requiring excessive injection pressure, while the ethylene copolymer phase prevents brittle failure when parts are dropped or flexed.

Industrial packaging represents another natural fit. Lubricating oil barrels and paint drums produced from K8003 handle the static load of dense liquid fill while resisting impact during stacking and transport. The heat distortion temperature of 83.6°C at 0.46 MPa means these containers hold their shape under moderate thermal load — relevant when storing lubricants in non-climate-controlled warehouses.

Battery shell applications place demand on both dimensional stability and electrical isolation. K8003's low ash content (0.0277%) reduces the presence of conductive inorganic residues, supporting dielectric integrity in the finished shell wall. The grade also accommodates the dimensional tolerances required for battery housing fitment, given its consistent pellet quality and controlled MFR.

Washing machine components — agitator covers, pump housings, and inner tub accessories — require a material that handles both mechanical vibration and repeated thermal cycling in detergent-laden environments. K8003's flexural modulus of 1.19 GPa provides sufficient stiffness for structural components, while the impact copolymer structure prevents stress cracking at snap-fit or mounting points.

Why Source Through BASTONE

BASTONE Petrochem trades polypropylene grades directly through established relationships with PetroChina's distribution network, part of a broader portfolio spanning all three of China's major petrochemical producers. Every K8003 shipment comes with a certificate of analysis traceable to the Dushanzi production batch, covering MFR, impact strength, and appearance criteria against Q/SY DS070-2016 — the documentation standard procurement teams need for incoming quality control and regulatory file-keeping.

The parent company's R&D center and four production sites give BASTONE technical staff a working understanding of polymer processing that most trading houses cannot offer. When a customer's injection process encounters flow or warpage issues, BASTONE can engage on processing parameters and grade alternatives rather than simply quoting a replacement product.

Export operations run through Zhejiang Bastone Technology Co., Ltd, an experienced export entity with documented FOB, CIF, and CNF experience. BASTONE handles customs documentation, COA authentication, SDS preparation, and container-load coordination for full 20-foot and 40-foot container shipments as well as LCL arrangements for smaller trial orders.
